North American Prospect Weekly Report (10/18 – 10/24)

The North American Prospect Report follows the weekly progress of Flyers prospects playing in the various leagues throughout North America.

Forwards:

Patrick Maroon continues his goal scoring prowess this week as he registered his 5th goal in 9 games this season. Eric Wellwood scored his 3rd of the season to become the Phantoms 2nd leading goal scorer. Outside of those two, it was a pretty pitiful week for Phantoms prospects who managed to score a grand total of 4 goals in 3 games this week. In junior action Brendan Ranford potted 2 more goals to bring his total to 12 in 14 games. He currently sits at 6th in the WHL in overall scoring and is tied for 4th in goals scored. Dave Labrecque and Michael Chaput each had strong performances in the QMJHL. Labrecque recorded 3 points in 3 games while Chaput finished with a goal and an assist in his 3 games. Shane Harper made his ECHL, but has yet to get on the score sheet.

Defenseman:

It was a pretty tough week for the defenseman this week with all of the minuses across the board. They’re all stuck on fairly poor teams so it’s hard to take anything from it. Joonas Lehtivuori and Erik Gustafsson continue to be two of the Phantoms most consistent point producers along with Patrick Maroon. They are tied with for 2nd in scoring on the Phantoms with 6 points each.

Goalies:

The Phantoms duo of Johan Backlund and Brian Stewart had a rough week giving up a combined 14 goals in 3 games, but they’ve gotten no help from the team in front of them so it’s hard to look at them in a negative light. Nicola Riopel made his ECHL debut for the Road Warriors this week. He stopped 26 of 27 in his debut to record his first win, but lost his next two when he gave up 7 goals and 3 goals respectively. Adam Morrison came on in relief of Steven Sanford in his first game this week where he saved 11 of the 12 shots he faced. In the only game he started this week he let in 3 goals on the 27 shots he faced and lost in the shootout.
