“The morning after” is a review of the previous night’s Flyers’ game which, in theory, provides a more objective perspective on the game.
The next part of this post is a metaphor for the effort that the Flyers showed last night:*
*Brian Boucher and Ville Leino aside.
Some quick thoughts:
- What do Ville Leino, Blair Betts, and Scott Hartnell all have in common? They all have more goals than Mike Richards, Nikolay Zherdev, and James van Riemsdyk.
- Not only do the Flyers have one of the worst power plays (8.6%) in the league but they also score among the lowest goals per game (2.38) and have one of the worst face off percentages (46.9%).
- The Flyers are now about one-tenth of the way through the season and they let nearly half of those games slip through their fingers and each one seems to be getting worse. Unfortunately, this team is headed in the wrong direction. The longer this continues, the more imminent a trade seems to be.
- Here is how the Flyers fared over the first eight games of the last five seasons and how far they went in the postseason:
’07: 1-7-0, DNQ
’08: 6-2-0, Conference Finals
’09: 2-3-3, Quarterfinals
’10: 5-2-1, Stanley Cup Finals
’11: 3-4-1, ???
