North American Prospect Weekly Report (11/15 – 11/21)

The North American Prospect Report follows the weekly progress of Flyers prospects playing in the various leagues throughout North America.

Eric Wellwood was one of the lone bright spots for the Phantoms. He was one of the only two Phantoms to end up with more than a point (1 goal, 1 assist) over their 3 games. His play earned him a call up to the Flyers. Shane Harper earned a call up to the Phantoms after finishing with a goal and an assist in two games with the Greenville Road Warriors in the ECHL. He got in two games with the Phantoms, assisting on two goals in his AHL debut. Ben Holmstrom and Andrew Rowe were the only other forward prospects to register a point with the Phantoms. Each scored a goal. In junior action, Brendan Ranford ( 1 goal, 3 assists, +2) and Dave Labrecque (1 goal, 2 assists, +3) both continued to play well. Micheal Chaput, on the other hand, had a tough week. He ended up pointless and a -2. Tye McGinn did not play any games with the Gatineau Olympiques, but there is no word as to why he did not play.

Ricard Blidstrand, a stay at home defender, had a little offensive awakening this week. He scored his first goal of the season and assisted on another on Friday. He then went on to score his second goal of the season the following night. Outside of Blidstrand, it was a very anemic weak on offense for the rest of the defensive crop. Erik Gustafsson was the only other prospect to record a point this week. Tyler Hostetter did not play this week due to a hand injury. There is some speculation that his hand is broken so he may be out for a little while.

Nic Riopel’s play in the ECHL earned him a call up and two starts with the Phantoms this week. He played well giving up 5 goals on 57 shots through two games, but the Phantoms lack of offense cost him the opportunity to record a win. Brian Stewart was demoted to the ECHL so the Phantoms could make room for Riopel. He played well in his ECHL debut where he stopped 32 of 34 shots, but a lack of goal support cost him a win. Johan Backlund played okay in his one start this week. He let in 4 of the 37 shots he faced and ended up losing in over time. Adam Morrison started one game this week. He stopped 20 of 23 shots and recorded the win.
