North American Prospect Weekly Report (11/21-11/28)

The North American Prospect Report follows the weekly progress of Flyers prospects playing in the various leagues throughout North America.


The junior prospects continue to be the bright spots of the forward crop. After missing a game due to suspension, Brendan Ranford came back with a 7 point performance in 3 games. He scored the lone goal in a 10-1 loss on Wednesday, assisted on 3 on Thursday, and then capped his week off with 2 goals and an assist on Saturday. Tye McGinn returned the Olympiques lineup after missing a little time due to injury. He recorded 2 goals and 2 assists over the 2 games he played. Michael Chaput bounced back after a frustrating week last week. He scored a goal, assisted on another, and finished a +3 in his first game of the week. He also scored a goal in the other game he played. Dave Labrecque also scored a goal in junior action. Luke Pither was the lone forward prospect to score for the Phantoms with his first and second goals as a professional. Andrew Rowe, Jonathan Kalinski, and Ben Holmstrom were the other Phantoms forward prospects to register a point.

Danny Syvret had an immediate impact on the Phantoms upon his return. He scored a goal in his first game back and then scored two more the following game. He was the Phantoms best offensive performer of the week. Newly signed Flyers prospect Brandon Manning scored his 11th goal this week which leads the league in scoring for defenseman. Marc-Andre Bourdon and Erik Gustafsson were the only other defenseman to register a point this week. Gustafsson in particular seemed to have a rough go of it this week with an eye popping -9 over 4 games. Tyler Hostetter remains out with a hand injury.

Johan Backlund seemed to be showing some signs of improvement before going down with an injury during his second start. His .898 save percentage in his limited time in net was the best he posted in over a month. Nic Riopel had a rough start to his week. He let in 6 goals of the 27 shots he faced in his first start. He came in relief of Backlund on Saturday and let in 2 of the 9 shots he faced. Finally on Sunday he saved 18 of 21 shots. Adam Morrison is back to backup duty with the return of Saskatoon Blades starter Steven Sanford. He saved 29 of the 32 shots he faced in the game he started, but lost the game 3-0. Brian Stewart has continued to play fairly well since being demoted to the ECHL. He stopped a total of 57 of the 63 shots he faced over the two games he started. He recorded the win in each start. He has been recalled to the Phantoms after the injury to Johan Backlund.
