North American Prospect Weekly Report (3/21 – 3/27)

The North American Prospect Report follows the weekly progress of Flyers prospects playing in the various leagues throughout North America.

Forwards:

The playoffs begun for the kids in juniors this week. Tyler Brown’s Plymouth Whalers are matched up against Jason Akeson’s Kitchener Rangers in round one of the OHL playoffs so only one will be advancing. Brown scored the game winner in over time of game one. He also assisted on two other goals in game one. Jason Akeson had a pair of assists in the same game. Brown scored a shorthanded goal in game two while Akeson finished with an assist. Tye McGinn recorded a goal and an assist in each of his two playoff games. Dave Labrecque recorded an assist in both of his games. Ben Holmstrom had a nice weekend with the Phantoms. He scored a goal on Friday and then scored two more on Saturday. Rob Bordson and Luke Pither each also finished with 3 points on the week. They both scored a goal and assisted on two others. Matt Read made his debut this weekend after signing with the Flyers earlier in the week. He scored his first goal in his second game with the Phantoms. Jonathon Kalinski and Mike Testwuide contributed with a goal each this week. Tom Sestito and Harry Zolnierczyk also both registered a point this week for the Phantoms. Andrew Rowe played a game with Greenville in the ECHL and also played one with the Phantoms this week, He had one assist with Greenville. Finally, Shane Harper finished with an assist in each of his three games with Greenville.

Defenseman:

Tyler Hostetter was pointless in both of his playoff games, but was on the ice for both goals his team scored in a 2-1 win. He was also a +1 in their loss. Brandon Manning was held pointless in both of Chilliwack’s losses. Danny Syvret and Erik Gustafsson were the only defenders to register any offense this week. Syvret had three assists over the weekend while Gustafsson had two points in five games played. Marc-Andre Bourdon was sent to the ECHL for two games so he could be eligible for the playoffs. He finished with zero points and a +1 in two games. He was also pointless in his three games with the Phantoms.

Goalies:

Johan Backlund started one of the Phantoms five games this week. He let in 2 goals on 26 shots, but was tagged with the loss. Nic Riopel only started one game as well. He stopped 28 of 31 shots and won the game in overtime. Brian Stewart was practically unbeatable in his three starts. He allowed a total of two goals on 93 shots over three games. He allowed a goal in each of his first two games and finished out with a 24 save shutout during his third game.
