North American Prospect Weekly Report (3/28 – 4/3)

The North American Prospect Report follows the weekly progress of Flyers prospects playing in the various leagues throughout North America.


Jason Akeson scored a hat trick and was named the first star in a 6-4 win in game five of the first round. He also finished with an assist in game six. Tyler Brown assisted on the game winning goal in overtime during game four. He also had a 4 assist game in game five. The series between will be going to game seven. Tye McGinn and Dave Labrecque will both be moving to the second round of the QMJHL playoffs. McGinn had 3 points (1 g, 2 a) in his three playoff games this week to bring his playoff totals to 7 points (3 g, 4 a) in five games. Dave Labrecque registered at least a point in each of his three games to finish with two goals and two assists over three games. He has five points (2 g, 3 a) in five playoff games so far. Andrew Rowe and Shane Harper helped the Road Warriors win their division as they wrapped up the regular season. Rowe scored a goal in each of his three games with the Road Warriors. Harper had a goal scoring outburst to finish the season. He scored two goals and recorded an assist in the first of his three games. He followed that up with a goal in his last game. He then finished off the regular season by scoring two more goals in his final game. Matt Read already seems comfortable since turning pro as he scored a goal in each of his three games and also added an assist. Mike Testwuide had a hat trick in a game and also added an assist in another game to finish with 4 points. Harry Zolnierczyk finished with a goal and assist on the week. Eric Wellwood also scored a goal this week. Rob Bordson assisted on two goals during the Phantoms second game this week. Jonathon Kalinski recorded a couple of assists on the week. Lastly, Luke Pither also got on the scoresheet with an assist.

Brandon Manning’s Chilliwack Bruins were eliminated in five games from the playoffs this week. He scored a goal in game four which was his only point in five playoff games. Tyler Hostetter had an assist in game 3 and scored a goal in game 4 of his playoff series which is tied at 3-3. Kevin Marshall and Danny Syvret each scored a goal and assisted on another to finish with two points each on the week. Marc-Andre Bourdon and Erik Gustafsson both finished with two assists on the week.

Adam Morrison’s Saskatoon Blades advanced to the second round of the WHL playoffs, but he remains on the bench as the backup. Johan Backlund let in 6 goals on 34 shots in his only start for the Phantoms. Nic Riopel won both of his start with the Road Warriors. He stopped 70 of the 73 shots he faced over both games. Brian Stewart allowed 4 goals on 31 shots to lose his first start. He then stopped all but one of the 40 shots he faced in his second start to get the win.
