The Philadelphia Flyers have placed goaltender Michael Leighton on re-entry waivers. Teams will have until noon tomorrow to place a claim on him. If claimed the Flyers will be responsible for half of his $1.55 million cap hit next season.
Leighton, who was waived by the Flyers in January, was 14-12-3 with a 2.22 GAA and .923 save percentage with the Phantoms. He posted 5 shutouts in 30 games. At half his cap hit he will be an appealing option for any team in need of a back up next season.
Should he clear waivers he will become a depth option for the Flyers come playoff time. One has to wonder if he will move ahead of Boucher as the backup due to his experience as last year’s starter during the Finals.
