Poll: Would you make this hypothetical PHI/WAS trade?

Before I go on, I’d like to preface this poll by saying this situation is purely hypothetical. I am not speculating that this might happen or suggesting it is a legitimate rumor. For the love of all that is good and holy, don’t read anything into it or claim that I said this might happen.

As rivals, the Flyers and Capitals make for unusual bedfellows but, this offseason, they could be a match. Washington has goaltending depth and a right-handed offensive defenseman, both rumored to be available. The Flyers have a surplus of centers and an alleged need for goaltending.

So, if you’re Paul Holmgren, would you pull the trigger on a trade that sent the frequently maligned Jeff Carter and Matt Carle for Mike Green (let’s discount the fact you might think he’s a douche) and another young goalie in Semyon Varlamov?

I have my own take on take on this situation but will share it later on. What do you think? How would you alter this trade to make it even?

Would you trade Jeff Carter and Matt Carle for Mike Green and Semyon Varlamov?

If the Flyers are going to go after a right-handed defenseman and pay up to that amount for him (5.250) I’d rather them work a deal with ATL for Zach Bogosian.

I would not go for that only because Varlomov hasnt done anything above and beyond what Bob could do. Compare numbers they are quite similar.

My trade would also include carter while he is worth some thing…I would do Carter to Toronto for this years 1st rounder (our old one) next year 2nd or 3rd and Luke Schenn.

I might throw in a prospect or some thing if they wanted it too…

There was this rumor from pros sports daily.

Rumored in the deal was one of the Maple Leaf’s two first-round picks, young defenseman Carl Gunnarsson and the dartboard prospect names of Joe Colborne, Jerry D’Amigo and even possibly Nazem Kadri.

I say drop colborne and d’amigo and add schenn then we will talk. I really don’t think trading Carter is a great Idea at all unless they are blown away.

No, I wouldn’t trade Carter. He’s consistently puts up good numbers when he’s healthy and would be a move the Flyers would regret down the line. I would unload a few supporting players and go for a Cory Schneider who is proven in the AHL and when given the chance with the Nucks has been pretty solid plus he won’t have a hefty price tags and long term contracts some of the veteran goalies will want. Flyers front office has said their future is with Bob so why tie up someone like Bryz for a lot of money and a longer term contract if in 2 years they would like to have Bob as a starter…that’s this chicks 2 cents

I wouldn’t take that trade. Carter consistently puts up good numbers (when he’s healthy) and trading him would come back to bite the Flyers in the butt. I would unload supporting players keep Carter and go after Cory Schneider, he is AHL proven and has some decent numbers for someone who really played his first full season in the NHL he was pretty solid. Schneider wont come with the price tag or long term contract most of the vets will want. Flyers front office has said the future is with Bob so why tie up a player like Bryz for a lot of money and a long term contract if in 2 years you want Bob as your start…just this chicks opinion.

If we’re gonna try dealing with Washington, go after Brooks Laich (making Versteeg expendable), or Erskine (the kind of d-man we’re gonna need as Kimmo and Pronger age). What to give up, not sure. Doubt McPhee would want Versteeg straight up for Laich, and getting their top d-man would be costly.

And everyone seems to forget that Bob is THIS CLOSE (holds fingers a few millimeters apart) to being the Guy. Bob richly deserves another 50-start season and needs work to develop properly. Bringing in a “#1″ goalie with a strong pedigree, under 30, is not the way to develop Bob. It means he’s either trade bait or is getting 20 games for the next several years.

No. Carter is a good two way player. He’s among the top 5 or 6 goal scorers in the NHL over the past 4 years. Varlamov is a solid goalie prospect, but he’s not as good as guys like Cory Schneider or Andreas Lindback.

Mike Green is a HORRIBLE defensive defenseman. I wouldn’t touch him with a ten foot pole, and especially not for Carter.

I wouldn’t do this for the simple reason that Varlamov = Bobrovsky. In fact, I think Bobrovsky is better than Varlamov, so even more so.

Also I agree with Lax about Zach Bogosian. I want that guy.
