Joacim Eriksson was a member ofthe Brynas IF junior system during his draft season of 2007-2008. He spent the year split between their J18 (under 18) and J20 (under 20) junior teams. Eriksson was the starting goalie for the J18 team. He started 9 of their 14 matches and posted a 2.31 goals against average and a .908 save percentage. He also posted two shutouts in his 9 starts. Eriksson also started all 5 games for the J18 squad in the playoffs. He finished with a 1.42 goals against average and a .940 save percentage in the playoffs which included two shutouts. He also started 16 games with Brynas’ J20 junior team, but he wasn’t as successful there. He finished with a 3.31 goals against average and a .875 save percentage. His forturnes turned around in the postseason as he was given the opporunity to start every game for the J20 squad. He posted a 1.83 GAA and a .942 sv% in 7 starts which included a shutout. Eriksson went unranked in Central Scouting’s final rankings for the 2008 draft.

The following season saw Eriksson become the full time starter for the Brynas IF’s J20 junior team. In what was a breakout year for him, he finished with the best goals against average (1.99) and best save percentage (.930) in the league in his 33 starts. He also posted 6 shutouts in his 33 starts. Eriksson’s continued his success in the playoffs as he leadthe J20 team to a championship, posting a 2.43 GAA and .922 sv% along the way.

Eriksson moved on the Leksand of HockeyAllsvenskan, Sweden’s second highest league, fore the 2009-2010 season. His stock continued to rise as a prospexct as the then 19 year old proved to be one of the league’s best starting goalies. He finished 4th in goals against average (2.40) and 3rd in save percentage (.926). He also lead the league in shutouts with 8 in 38 starts. Eriksson also started all 10 games in the Kvalserien, the tournament to qualify to play in the Elitserien, the highest level of hockey in Sweden. Eriksson played well, posting a 2.39 GAA and .923 sv% in 10 starts, but Leksands just fell short of their Elitserien bid.

Eriksson signed a two year contract with Skelleftea of the Elitserien beginning with the 2010-2011 seaosn. It was a largely forgettable season for him as he saw little action as the backup. He posted a 2.56 goals against average and a .907 save percentage in just 17 starts.
