2008-2009
Luukko began his first season with The Gunnery Highlanders, a prep school in Connecticut. He logged impressive minutes in his first year as he found himself in a top four role of the Highlanders’ defense. He impressed with his offensive contributions as he led defenseman in scoring with 15 points (4 g, 11 a) in 34 games.

2009-2010
Luukko returned to play for the Highlanders for his senior year. He showed considerable growth in his development as he nearly doubled his assist totals to 21. His final totals on the year were 2 goals and 21 assists in 31 games with the Highlanders. His dominance helped lead the Highlanders to a #1 ranking as well as the Cushing Tournament Championship and the Prep West Leage Championship.

2010-2011
Luukko headed to the United States Hockey League where he played for the Dubuque Fighting Saints. The season got off to a rocky start for Luukko as he broke his arm in October, but he managed to have an impressive season despite the bump in the road. He finished second in scoring amongst Fighting Saints defenders with 17 points (7 g, 10 a) in 45 games. Luukko had an even more impressive showing in the playoffs, contributing with a goal, 4 assists, and a +5 in 11 games to help the Saints win the Clark Cup.
