So, you may have heard by now that Jeremy Roenick appeared on Master Debaters with Jay Mohr.
The group of four panelists discussed which city had the most annoying sports fans and, as expected, the conversation inevitably turned to Philadelphia. Mohr lead the charge against Philly, attacking the city’s sports fans each time he spoke.
By the time Roenick finally had the opportunity to speak, it’s likely that Philly fans were so annoyed at Mohr that they were ready to pounce if Roenick called Philly anything shy of the best city with the best fans on the planet.
Roenick mentions that Philly fans booed Santa and the Tie Domi incident.
“Philly is… they are crazy, crazy summnabitches,” he said.
The truth is, we are. If that same statement was made in a different context, we may have laughed and lauded the former Flyer for his unrepentant honesty.
Regardless, his comments pale in comparison to the opinions of Mohr and Na’im Lynn, whoever he is.

What followed was a bit of self-fulfilling prophecy: Philly fans attacked Roenick online.
He eventually responded in a number of successive Tweets. Below, you will find his Tweets reposted — verbatim — in a more readable format.
I am in shock that all u philly fans don’t get it. I said u were the toughest to impress and worst on opposing teams. I love phili and fans
The fact ur bashing me now when I gave my heart and soul to that city proves my theory about ur toughness. Hate me if u want but I love phil
Wow u philly fans habe it so wrong its crazy. But u wanna be like that. So be it. I will always love philly. Sorry if u misinterpreted
Let’s rephrase the question to u uneducated people giving me crap! The ? Was who r the worst fans! Not worst fans supporting their own team
Worst fans to play in front of as an opponent. The hardest fans to please cause of their devotion to their sport. U can’t argue w me
Phili is the toughest on visiting team and their own players that don’t work hard or pull their weight. U guys will bo a player out of ur
City if ur a slacker and a bum and don’t work for the emblem on the front of the phili jersey no matter what sport it is.
So all u idiots tweeting me w uneducated hate mail wake up and tell me I’m wrong. Cause I think phili has on of the most loyal fan base
In the world for their own teams and only the players that give their heart and sole for them. Period end of discussion. I gave my heart
Sole and body for that sweater! I got 5 concussions trying my best to win and just because u misconstrue a ? Don’t hate me.
Look in the mirrior!! What a joke. My days r not spent trying to please u. I was there I gave my heart I WAS TRADED! And that’s that
I don’t hold a grudge against the flyers for asking me to lift my no trade clause. They had an opportunity to get a better player in forsberg
And I thought they had a better chance to win w him than me and I sucked up my pride and did that for the flyers. But u guys don’t see that
U don’t see the commitment that most athletes give to their team and city u just listen to media and start bashing. Its easy from ur side
Isn’t it. But our world is but in the public to criticize and most of u can go to ur ordinary jobs and bash us.
The us is made up of great people who r normal everyday hard workers and phili is full of those great people. The want a bang for their
Buck and I gave it to them and every city I represented. Stop being so closed and narrow minded. I’m talking only to the haters who
Bitch slapped me today! Trust I will sleep very well tonight know I gave it all for my teams and love the fans that I played for. PERIOD!!
And there you have it. Despite being bashed by fans, Roenick still praised Philadelphia and the city’s sports fans. I give JR full marks for walking a fine line between standing up for Philly but not backing down from those who attacked him. (N.B. You may notice that he also took a jab at the local media.)
Philadelphians, much like Roenick, are passionate and vocal. It is no surprise to see a feud come out of all of this but the anger is a bit misguided. Philly fans should direct their frustrations towards Mohr and Lynn.
