Future Flyers Weekly Report

The Future Flyers Weekly Report follows the weekly progress of Flyers prospects playing in the various leagues throughout North America.

Forwards:
The Phantoms kicked off their season this week with a 6-3 win against the Connecticut Whale. Many forward prospects contributing with the scoring. Flyers top prospect, Brayden Schenn, contributed with a couple of assists and was named the second star of the match. Mike Testwuide also chipped in with two points, finishing with a goal and an assist. Luke Pither and Eric Wellwood each scored their first goal of the season. Shane Harper also contributed with an assist. Nick Cousins finished with a pair of assists in his first game of the week, but was held pointless during his next two games. Derek Mathers also collected another assist this week. Marcel Noebels was held pointless on Friday and found himself a healthy scratch on Sunday.

Defenseman:
Oskars Bartulis had a successful return to the Phantoms as he scored a goal and assisted on another. Kevin Marshall also added to the Phantoms offense with a goal. Blake Kessel recorded his first professional point in his Phantoms debut with an assist. Ricard Blidstrand is another prospect that found himself a healthy scratch this weekend.

Niko Hovinen had a mixed couple of starts this week. He was chased 14 minutes into his first start when he allowed 4 goals on 8 shots, but recovered well in his next start when he allowed 1 goal on 22 shots to get the win.

      I like the idea of being patient with him, like the Flyers were with Giroux. They’ll need some time, especially now that they need to figure out the cap/contract mess with Betts back.
