The unquiet slumber of the early part of this 2011-12 season continued on Thursday, as Flyers GM Paul Holmgren confirmed that Brayden Schenn suffered a broken foot and will miss 4-to-6 weeks.
Schenn apparently suffered the injury when taking a shot off his left foot in Wednesday’s 5-1 loss in Montreal. Several sources reported that he was already in a walking boot by the time the club packed up to return to Philadelphia.
It’s an unexpected setback for the 20-year-old, who, despite not recording a point in four games with the big club this season, showed signs of the faith the franchise placed in him since his acquisition from LA in late June.
With Schenn apparently slated to head to LTIR, it means no further hand-wringing in the short term over roster slots.
Erik Gustafsson and Zac Rinaldo have been recalled from Adirondack of the American Hockey League for tonight’s tilt against the new version of the Winnipeg Jets.
Schenn earned a recall last week after going for four goals and eight points in four games with the Phantoms.
