Future Flyers Report

The Future Flyers Weekly Report follows the weekly progress of Flyers prospects.

Forwards:
Brendan Ranford caught fire this week with 1 goal and 8 assists over 4 games which included a 4 assist performance on Tuesday. His 9 point week allowed him to regain the lead in Blazer’s scoring. He also moved to the top 20 in WHL scoring. Nick Cousins had slowed down slightly with only 3 points in his last 6 games, but he picked up all 3 points this week. Marcel Noebels is still struggling to find some consistency as he picked up only an assist on the week. Meanwhile, Michael Parks picked up his first career assist in the NCAA on Friday.

Jason Akeson continues to challenge veteran Denis Hamel for the Phantoms scoring title. He picked up 2 goals and 2 assists and currently sits one point behind Hamel for scoring title. Tye McGinn broke out of his scoring slump this week when he scored 3 goals which included a 2 goal performance on Friday. Ben Holmstrom also had a point per game on the week with 2 goals and an assist in 3 games. Also contributing to the Phantoms this week was Mike Testwuide with 2 assists, Tom Sestito with a goal, and Shane Harper, Jonathon Kalinski, Luke Pither with an assist each.

Defensemen:
Brandon Manning made his professional debut with the Phantoms this week. He didn’t get on the score sheet, but he had a shot on goal. Ricard Blidstrand assisted on a goal and was a +1 in the lone game he played. He was a healthy scratch for the Pats’ other two games. Colin Suellentrop also picked up an assist and was a +3 in a 9-1 Generals blowout. Blake Kessel collected his 6th assist of the season for the Phantoms. It was his 6th point in his last 7 games after a slow start (1 point in 12 games) to the season.

Both Niko Hovinen and Brad Phillips did not play again this week. Hovinen remains out with an injury. Phillips returned from his injury, but did not get a start.
