Future Flyers Report – 01.04.12

The Future Flyers Weekly Report follows the weekly progress of Flyers prospects.

There wasn’t an update last week as most of the leagues were on a Christmas break so this week’s report covers games from December 26 through January 1.

Juniors + NCAA:
In juniors, Nick Cousins moved up to 11th in OHL scoring with 5 points (2g, 3a) in 3 games after the break. Brendan Ranford added 4 more points (1g, 3a) to his totals to hold onto a spot in the top 30 of WHL scoring. Derek Mathers assisted on two goals in a game last Thursday. He has nearly doubled his point totals from last season. Marcel Noebels collected a couple of assists in his trio of games. Defenseman Ricard Blidstrand also picked up an assist. Forward Petr Placek recorded his first point of his NCAA career with an assist on New Year’s Eve while Michael Parks scored his 3rd goal of the season.

Phantoms:
Jason Akeson scored 2 goals and assisted on 2 more which puts him at the top of the Phantoms points leader board. Eric Wellwood returned from injury after missing about half of the Phantoms games and tallied 3 points in 3 games. He currently sits at seventh in Phantoms scoring despite the time he missed. He also has the highest point per game out of the active Phantoms. Ben Holmstrom picked up his 9th goal to tie Jason Akeson for second in Phantoms goal scoring. He also picked up his 9th assist and sits 3rd in overall points for the Phantoms. Mike Testwuide scored his 4th and 5th goals of the season and moved up to 5th in Phantoms scoring. Defenseman Erik Gustafsson also returned from injury this week and collected 3 assists in two games played. Defender Blake Kessel also picked up a couple of assists.

Goaltending:
Niko Hovinen returned from injury after the Christmas break. His first outing was a bit shaky as he allowed 3 goals on 20 shots, but he only allowed 1 goal on 23 shots in his next start to help the Pelicans to a 2-1 win. Brad Phillips only action this week was when he came on in relief of the Titans starter. He stopped 19 of 21 shots in over 32 minutes of action, but was charged with a 5-4 loss.
