January 22, 1976 Flyers 7, Flames 2 – Reggie Leach nets a hat trick, Bill Barber scores a pair of goals in the Spectrum victory.
January 22, 1983 Flyers 1, Islanders 0 – Rookie goaltender Bob Froese officially earns his NHL stripes, making 31 saves to stifle the three-time defending Stanley Cup champions at Nassau Coliseum. Darryl Sittler’s second-period score was all Froese needed to earn his first career shutout.
January 22, 1989 Flyers 7, Jets 3 – Tim Kerr registers a hat trick, scoring twice in a three-goal third period and Ron Hextall made 37 saves as Flyers recover from early 2-0 deficit to win at the old Winnipeg Arena.
January 22, 2001 Flyers 3, Kings o – Flyers score a goal in each period (Gagne, Recchi, Richardson) to back 27 saves from Roman Cechmanek.
January 23, 1985 Kings 6, Flyers 3 – Rookie defenseman and not-yet-Flyer Garry Galley scores two third-period goals while Marcel Dionne posts a goal and three assists, as Los Angeles wins at home over the Orange and Black f0r the first time since 1973. Philly had gone 17-0-4 in that span.
January 23, 2000 – Rod Brind’Amour’s tenure in Philadelphia comes to an end as the reliable and durable forward is dealt to the Carolina Hurricanes along with goaltender Jean-Marc Pelletier and a draft pick for Keith Primeau and another pick.
January 23, 2011 Flyers 4, Blackhawks 1 –Nikolay Zherdev, Jeff Carter and Scott Hartnell score in the third period in Philly’s first visit to the United Center since Game 5 of the 2010 Stanley Cup Finals the previous June.
January 24, 1987 Devils 4, Flyers 3 — Mark Johnson scores a pair of first-period goals and New Jersey hangs on late to win at the Meadowlands. But the real fun began after the buzzer:
Partway through the clip, you hear Gene Hart allude to a suspension given out to Flyers head coach Mike Keenan. Keenan had been banned for this game due to his role in a Flyers-Islanders bench-clear at the Spectrum the previous Sunday.
January 24, 1991 Flyers 6, Capitals 1 – Rick Tocchet rips Mike Liut for a trio of goals in the blowout Spectrum victory. Pelle Eklund added four assists and Hextall made 38 stops.
January 25, 1986 Flyers 1, Blues 0 – Darren Jensen turns in one of the best goaltending performances in club history, making 48 saves — 24 in the third period alone — to help the Flyers take the narrow win in St. Louis.
January 25, 1990 Flyers 8, Jets 6 – Rick Tocchet has the finest performance of his career to date, totaling four goals and two assists and virtually willing Paul Holmgren’s club to victory. The Flyers had suffered through what was then a club-record 10-game winless streak and hadn’t won a game yet in the new decade.
January 25, 2006 Canadiens 5, Flyers 3 – Jan Bulis scores four times as Montreal posts a surprise win in Philadelphia.
January 27, 1982 Flyers 4, Kings 4 – A mini Miracle on Manchester unfolds. Trailing by two with under a minute left, Dionne and Larry Murphy score 32 seconds apart to forge the deadlock. Ray Allison had scored the presumed insurance tally into an empty net with 1:03 remaining.
January 28, 1987 Flyers 7, Sabres 4 – Peter Zezel picks up his second career hat trick, Tim Kerr scored twice and Glen Seabrooke tallied three assists for the win at the old Aud in Buffalo.
