Hockey Hilarity: Sweater Switch

Thanks to Film Junk

Friday funnies brought to you straight from hockey’s own players and media personnel. We’ll be mucking it up every week right here, examining puck ups, puns, tweets, and more!

Something that happens quite often when players sign with or are traded to a new team is a change of the number that they use on their jersey. Last year, newly-signed Philadelphia Flyers forward Max Talbot had to wear the number 27 jersey as his regular number 25, yes the one he wore for the cross-state rival Pittsburgh Penguins, was taken by none other than the polarizing and now departed defenseman Matt Carle.

Another thing that happens sometimes is when a number that a player likes opens up due to a trade or a player leaving or retiring, well some player might switch their sweater number back to what they used to use. Yesterday via Twitter, @Max25Talbot announced that he would be doing just that:

Well, we all know that hockey players can be kinda funny, and if you were privileged enough to watch HBO’s 24/7 Road to the Winter Classic last season with the Flyers and New York Rangers, you would know that Carle’s actually pretty funny. He had that famous one-liner about concussions being on everyone’s Christmas list and that he hoped Santa didn’t bring him one as well. Anyway, @mattcarle25 responded thusly:

Everybody loves them some self-deprecating humor, but if you were one of the few that got a little bent out of shape over it or it’s not really your style, maybe this last remark will make you chuckle:

Check back for more hockey hilarity next week right here on Flyers Faithful.
