Welcome to Around the Net, a weekly look through linkage at the Philadelphia Flyers and other news from around the NHL.

Hartnell gets extended

Scott Hartnell gets a 6 year contract extension from the Flyers on Monday:[Broad Street Hockey] [The Checking Line] [The 700 Level]

My take on Hartnell- I love this deal, with an average cap hit of $4.75 million a year, Hartnell gets a $550,000 raise and stays in orange and black for 6 years longer. Looks really good to me.

The Wayne Train also gets paid

Oh, in case you forgot or live in a cave, Wayne Simmonds signed a 6 year contract last week. I am sensing a pattern here:[The Checking Line] [Hockeybuzz] [The 700 Level]

My take on Simmonds-Homer does is again, signing a young, up and coming player at a reasonable cap hit for the next 6 years. Simmonds is already a fan favorite, if he continues to improve and becomes a playoff performer, this deal will look better and better.

On a serious note

All of us here at Flyersfaithful.com would like to extend our deepest sympathies to Danny Briere on the loss of his mother. [Broad Street Hockey]

Nashville signs someone finally

Mr. Carrie Underwood signs a 2 year extension to stay in Dollywood:[CSN Philly]
