A pair of forwards in the Philadelphia Flyers’ system were injured this week, as both Ben Holmstrom and Andrew Johnston suffered setbacks.

Holmstrom, the team’s captain, left the Phantoms’ December 8 game against the Syracuse Crunch, which turned out to be a 4-3 shootout victory, due to an injury to his knee. It was announced on Saturday that the forward will undergo surgery on his right knee this Thursday. He is expected to miss a large part of the season, but there still is a chance he returns before the end of the year.

He may not boast the most impressive offensive numbers, but Holmstrom is one of the better defensive-oriented forwards the club can offer. With two goals and six assists in 22 contests, Holmstrom ranks eighth on the team in points, but he is one of only two players on the team with a plus rating of plus-3. The other skater on the team with a plus rating is Oliver Lauridsen, who is plus-7.

Johnston started the season with the Phantoms before he was sent down to the Trenton Titans, where he suffered a concussion in his first game and discovered the injury after he suited up for a second tilt. The forward is day-to-day with the injury, as he had a goal in 10 games with the Phantoms before he potted a goal in his two games with the Titans.
