Candle snuffed: White gets five games for Huskins elbow

The National Hockey League dished out a five-game suspension to Montreal Canadiens forward Ryan White on Wednesday afternoon, for an illegal check to the head of Philadelphia defenseman Kent Huskins.

The incident occurred 6:11 into the first period of Monday’s 7-3 Philadelphia victory, when White reached out and used his elbow to subdue Huskins instead of using bodily contact.

Huskins suffered a concussion on the play, and is out indefinitely. White was assessed a match penalty and game misconduct.

He will forfeit $18,581.10, which automatically goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund, and  not be eligible to return until the Habs’ regular-season finale against Toronto on April 27.
