The biggest news in terms of current and past Philadelphia Flyers is the signing of Brandon Manning to a one-year deal. The blue liner has appeared in 10 games for the Orange and Black over the last two seasons, as well as 111 games for the Adirondack Phantoms. He has two assists and a plus-5 rating in the NHL and 12 goals with 28 assists, as well as 216 PIMs, in the AHL. Manning will come with a cap hit of $675,000 next season.

As for former Flyers, Nikolay Zherdev is making his third appearance in Frequent Flyer Miles, as he has been released by HC Lev Praha. The forward asked to be released from the KHL squad based in the Czech Republic to be closer to his family in Russia. Zherdev started the summer with Ak Bars Kazan, a Russian KHL club, before joining Atlant Mytishchi, another Russian KHL club. After his short time with Atlant, Zherdev moved to HC Lev Praha.

Former Flyer defenseman and 2003 draft pick Alexandre Picard will play for the Graz 99ers, a club in Austria’s Erste Bank Eishockey Liga. Picard last played with the Flyers in 2007-2008, where he appeared in four games. He last saw NHL action with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2011-2012 and, ironically, took part in 11 games last year with HC Lev Praha. The 85th overall pick in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Picard will join a club that features Dany Sabourin and Guillaume Lefebvre.

Another former blue liner for the Flyers might be joining a new club soon, as David Printz is rumored to become a member of the Schwenninger Wild Wings of Germany’s DEL. The transaction is nothing more than a rumor, as the DEL club is experiencing several injuries and Printz is an option that has been mentioned quite a bit. Printz has already changed teams once this offseason, as he left Dornbirner EC of the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga to join his current team, Djurgarden of the Allsvenskan.

Greg Coburn has been released by the SM-liiga’s Ilves this week. Braydon’s younger brother has spent the last four seasons at Union College, where he posted 73 points in 153 games. He joined Ilves in early June and was released from the team before playing in a single game. Coburn participated in the Flyers’ developmental camp last season.

As for former Phantom news, Brendan Connolly will play for the Alaska Aces next season in the ECHL. After being a member of the Greenville Road Warriors over the last three seasons, as well as a 12-game stint with the Texas Stars in the AHL during the 2011-2012 campaign, Connolly will suit up for the Calgary Flames’ affiliate next year. Connolly took part in three games for the Phantoms during the 2010-2011 season, as he had two PIMs and a minus-2 rating in his brief time in Adirondack.
