One day before the Flyers head to Lake Placid, NY to continue training camp, the team announced a cut of 28 players from camp. The full list of players can be viewed here.
Among them who likely will be sent to Adirondack are forwards Jason Akeson, Nick Cousins, Marcel Noebels, Petr Straka and Tye McGinn. Defensemen Mark Alt, Brandon Manning, Matt Konan and goaltender Cal Heeter round out the list of notables.
2013 draft pick Tyrell Goulbourne was sent back to his junior team (Kelowna Rockets, WHL), along with 2012 draft pick Taylor Leier (Portland Winterhawks, WHL), and 2013 first-round draft pick Samuel Morin (Rimouski Oceanic, QMJHL). Morin was thought by many to have earned a longer stay with the team after two impressive showings in the preseason, but at only 18 years old, likely was headed back to juniors at some point.
Still with the team include forwards Scott Laughton and Michael Raffl. After the Dan Cleary saga ended, many thought the empty spot on the third line would come down to either McGinn, Laughton or Raffl. McGinn hadn’t shown much aside from a shootout goal against Toronto, so the battle is down to the latter of the three. With both having good preseasons so far, it could come down to the final preseason game to see who wins the spot.
