Penn State hockey fans in the Delaware Valley and across the country will have ample opportunities to see their beloved Nittany Lions on national television this season. The Big Ten Conference announced Monday that Penn State will appear at least 10 times on national broadcasts for the upcoming 2013-14 season.
Penn State fans will have the chance to watch the Lions’ christen the brand new Pegula Ice Arena on Friday Oct. 11 versus the Army Black Knights at 8 p.m on the Big Ten Network. BTN will televise six Nittany Lion games in total during the regular season, including home contests against a tough Minnesota squad on Monday, Jan. 13 (time TBD) and Michigan State on Friday, Feb. 14 at 6:30 p.m.
BTN will televise three road matchups starting on Friday, Jan. 17 at 6:30 p.m. against Michigan State, Friday Feb. 21 at 6:30 p.m. against the Wolverines and Friday, Feb. 28 at 9 p.m. versus Minnesota. Fox Sports Detroit Plus will televise Penn State’s game in Ann Arbor on Saturday, Feb 22 regionally.
The Nittany Lions are scheduled to appear three times on the ESPN family of networks. ESPNU will carry their home game against a talented Michigan team on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 5 p.m. ESPNEWS will broadcast Penn State’s home game against Michigan State on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 3:30 p.m. and an away game against the Ohio State Buckeyes on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 2 p.m.
Penn State joins the Big Ten Conference this season, in what is the league’s inaugural season. Guy Gadowsky’s squad has 4 NHL draft picks in total, including juniors Max Gardiner (STL, 74th overall, ’10) and Patrick Koudys (WSH, 174th overall, ’11) and incoming freshmen Eamon MacAdam (NYI, 70th overall, ’13) and Mike Williamson (VAN, 175th overall, ’13).
