As the beginning of the NHL season nears, several former Philadelphia Flyers, draft picks of the team, and former members of the organization were involved in transactions this week. The biggest news might be the New York Rangers releasing Johan Hedberg, who was with the team on a Professional Try-Out. Hedberg, who was selected 218th overall by the Flyers in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft, has spent the last three seasons with the New Jersey Devils.
Two former Flyers were involved in moves this week, as Andreas Nodl was released by his NLA team and Jan Hlavac will join HC Kladno for the 2013-2014 campaign.
Nodl, who last played in the NHL with the Carolina Hurricanes, was released by Lausanne HC a little over a month after he signed with the club. The forward has 36 points in 183 NHL games, along with 60 points in 113 AHL games in his career.
As for Hlavac, the former Flyer will join a Tipsport Extraliga squad that also boasts Tomas Kaberle. Hlavac recently played for the Vaxjo Lakers of the SHL, where he had seven points in 13 games. The forward has spent time with HC Kladno in each of the last three seasons. He played in 31 games for the Flyers during the 2001-2002 season, where he had 10 points.
A draft pick of the Flyers, Jeff Woywitka, has turned down an offer from the SHL team Leksand, as he hopes to join an NHL team in the near future. The first-round draft pick of the Flyers in 2001, Woywitka spent last season with the Peoria Rivermen and last saw NHL action with the Rangers in 2011-2012.
In terms of moves with recent Phantoms, both Andrew Rowe and Rastislav Pavlikovsky changed teams this week.
Rowe will be joining the Hartford Wolf Pack of the AHL on a try-out basis. The winger played for the Adirondack Phantoms in the seasons of 2010-2011 and 2011-2012. Last season, Rowe had 71 points in 66 games with the Elmira Jackals in the ECHL.
As for Pavlikovsky, the center has joined HK Dukla Trencin of the Slovakian Tipsport Extraliga. Pavlikovsky played in 12 games with the Philadelphia Phantoms back in the 1999-2000 season, as he had four goals and seven helpers in his time with the Phantoms.
A pair of former Trenton Titans joined new teams, as Doug Clarkson signed a deal with the Phantoms and Jesse Todd joined another ECHL squad.
Clarkson spent all of five games last season with the Titans before he joined the Phantoms this week. David’s brother also appeared in 25 tilts for the Toledo Walleye last season, as he had four goals and four assists for the Chicago Blackhawks and Detroit Red Wings affiliate.
As for Todd, the 26-year-old forward will play for the Idaho Steelheads this season, the ECHL affiliate for the Dallas Stars. Todd had six goals and nine assists in 32 contests last year for the Titans. He also had an assist in three games with the San Francisco Bulls, as well as a goal and an assist in seven tilts with the Reading Royals.
