There has been a lot of interest in Philadelphia Flyers’ prospect Shayne Gostisbehere since the team picked him in the third round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. This weekend may have created even more intrigue around the defenseman, as an opposing coach had some strong opinions on the blue liner.

Gostisbehere, who was named ECAC’s Player of the Week, played well this weekend against RPI. According to SB Nation’s Jeff Cox, Seth Appert, RPI’s head coach, said after Saturday’s game that Gostisbehere,”is the best player in the country.” Now whether the coach said it in all honesty or to try and throw off his opponent for their next game, it’s still something that Flyers’ fans should be excited to hear. Gostisbehere leads all Flyers’ prospects on the blue line with 12 points in 11 games.

As for the Subway Super Series, Samuel Morin took part in the first game of the series, as Team QMJHL beat Team Russia by the count of 3-2 on Monday. Morin didn’t have any points and had two PIMs with an even rating. He did, however, look really bad on this goal by Vladimir Tkachev in the second period to tie the game.

Team Russia and Team QMJHL will square off again tonight before Team Russia takes on Team OHL tomorrow night. Scott Laughton is a member of the Ontario Hockey League’s squad.
