Fake Hockey Help: Tyler Bozak, the Devils’ defense, Mazanec and Andersen

While the Toronto Maple Leafs have lost four straight games and have failed to win in regulation in their last six, there is one impactful player from the Atlantic Division squad you should pick up for fantasy. Although he is infamous for his work at the dot, Tyler Bozak is a forward you should consider adding to your team.

After missing 12 games with a lower-body injury, Bozak returned to Toronto’s lineup on November 25th against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Since his return, he has one goal and three assists while playing at least 20:32 in each of the four tilts since he joined the team again. He is also plus-1 with five shots on goal, as he centers the Maple Leafs’ top line and the team’s first power-play unit. Also on the team’s top line are James van Riemsdyk and Phil Kessel, the team’s top two point producers. Bozak is currently owned in 72.9 percent of ESPN leagues, but he is being added at a rapid pace, as he is the most added player across ESPN leagues in the last week.

On the blue line, two players you should look into are Andy Greene and Eric Gelinas of the New Jersey Devils.

Greene, who is currently owned in 95.9 percent of ESPN leagues, is on a five-game point streak. He has a total of three goals and 10 helpers in 27 games, along with 42 shots on goal and 12 PIMs. His average time on the ice may be 24:54, but he will have several games where he sees over 27 minutes of ice time. It’s not likely he is available in your league, but considering he is on New Jersey’s top defensive pairing and the team’s second power-play unit, he’s worth a look.

As for Gelinas, he has 10 points in 18 games. Of those 10 points, eight have come on the power play, as he is on the blue line with Greene on the team’s second power play unit. Although his average TOI is 19:12, he has played 20:50 or more in three of his last five games. He is owned in 25.7 percent of ESPN leagues and is a solid add for a deeper league.

For your goaltending problems, two goaltenders you should look into are Frederik Andersen and Marek Mazanec. These netminders aren’t long-term solutions, but they can help you at the moment and possibly for the next few weeks.

With Viktor Fasth still expected to miss a few more weeks thanks to a lower-body muscle inflammation, Andersen should see some action with the Anaheim Ducks. After posting impressive numbers in his handful of appearances earlier in the season, Andersen stopped 19 of 21 on Friday to record the win in Anaheim’s 5-2 victory over the Calgary Flames. The win actually hurt Andersen’s numbers, as he currently boasts a .939 save percentage and a 1.70 GAA in eight games this year. He is owned in 32.8 percent of ESPN leagues.

As for Mazanec, the goaltender has taken over the role as Nashville’s starter at the moment, as Pekka Rinne is still recovering from a rare hip injury. With Rinne still expected to miss time, Mazanec will get almost all of the starts until he’s back, as Carter Hutton hasn’t exactly impressed with his work in the blue paint this season. Mazanec hasn’t allowed more than two goals against in his last eight starts and has posted a pair of shutouts in that span. The Predators may not provide him with the most goal support, but they don’t often hang him out to dry. Mazanec is currently owned in 56.8 percent of ESPN leagues.
