Future Flyers Report: The former Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds

Last year for the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the OHL, Nick Cousins led the team with 103 points in 64 games while Brandon Alderson sat third on the team with 64 points in 67 games. After both players saw a handful of games with the Adirondack Phantoms last season, Cousins and Alderson haven’t quite produced the gaudy numbers they provided last year.

Cousins has the higher point total between the two players, as he has three goals and six helpers in 22 games with the Philadelphia Flyers’ AHL affiliate this season. Along with his nine points, Cousins is minus-2 with eight PIMs. He isn’t at the nearly 1.5 points-per-game pace he displayed in the OHL, but things look promising for the center who is all of 20 years old and was draft in the third round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

As for Alderson, he has seven points and a plus-1 rating in 19 games. The soon-to-be 22-year-old didn’t has quite as impressive numbers in the OHL as Cousins, but he has shown with the Phantoms that he can hold his own at the professional level.

In financial terms, both players are on entry-level contracts, as Cousins and Alderson are signed until the summer of 2016. Cousins makes $811,667 per season, while Alderson makes $767,500 per season.
