Hockey Hilarity: How To Run a Professional Sports Team’s Twitter Account

Last night, the Philadelphia Flyers beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-4 after being down by scores of 3-0 and 4-2 in the 3rd period. Some guy named Claude Giroux scored a pretty game winner and the Internet exploded.

Here’s the goal:

I don’t have the privilege of living in the viewing area, I watch the games on Game Center Live and usually way after the fact because my day job keeps me later than the start times most evenings. Anyway, last night, I’m watching the game and I see a tweet from the Columbus Blue Jackets and it’s this:

So I’m thinking I’ll jokingly ask this:

I never expected a response, but the Columbus Blue Jackets’ social media team really is a wonderful one, and you should definitely be following their twitter because this is what happened after that exchange:

That’s what makes this account so great. Those people run their account the way it should be run: fun, funny, self-deprecating, and interactive!
