Waiver wire: Hall arrives, Foster clears

It’s been a day slower than molasses in Vermont in January on trade deadline 2013, but the first move has been made by the Flyers. Adam Hall was claimed off waivers from the Tampa Bay Lightning. Hall, a 32-year-old Michigan native, posted four assists in 20 games with the Bolts, after failing to record a point in six appearances with Carolina earlier in the season. A 10-year NHL veteran who played collegiate hockey for Michigan State, Hall has totaled 65 goals and 147 points in 591 NHL games for Nashville, the Rangers, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, Tampa and the Hurricanes. Despite being …

Phantoms getting help from juniors

The Philadelphia Phantoms have sported one of the most anemic offenses in the American Hockey League all season, and had to deal with multiple call-ups due to injuries to the parent club. On Wednesday, they finally get to do some addition without subtraction as winger Brandon Alderson is on his way from Sault Ste. Marie to Glens Falls thanks to signing an amateur tryout contract for the remainder of this season. Alderson revealed on his Twitter account earlier this morning that visa issues held up the transaction, but that he’s on his way to the AHL as we speak. The …

Let’s Make a Deal: Harry Z heads to Anaheim

If there’s one thing we can count on as the trade deadline approaches, it’s that Paul Holmgren will more often than not seek out, and consummate, a deal with a favorable Western Conference trading partner. This time, it’s the Anaheim Ducks. The Flyers made the move official on Monday evening, shipping Harry Zolnierczyk to Orange County for Jay Rosehill. Zolnierczyk, who played collegiate hockey at Brown, totaled one assist in seven games for the Flyers this season, along with nine goals and 17 points over 52 games for Adirondack. In 44 NHL games over the last two seasons, Harry Z …

Talbot has broken leg, season possibly over

Despite all the good which may result from a 5-4 overtime comeback victory over the Washington Capitals last night, what’s this 2013 season if not one for injury misfortunes? On Monday, the Flyers added one more to the pile, reporting that forward Max Talbot suffered a broken left leg and is out indefinitely. Talbot suffered the injury late in the second period after a knee-to-knee collision with a Capitals defender. He left the ice unable to put any pressure on the leg and had to be carried by team staff into the locker room. The 29-year-old native of Quebec was …

Flyers acquire Huskins from Red Wings

A Flyers insider reported and the club later confirmed that defensive help is on the way…and it’s not from Adirondack. Minutes into Saturday’s Flyers-Bruins tilt, word came down that Paul Holmgren worked the phones and acquired little-used blueliner Kent Huskins from the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for a conditional draft pick in 2014. According to the Wings’ Twitter, it is a seventh-round choice. In true Flyers fashion, it’s a steal: if they don’t sign Huskins to a contract by next October, that conditional pick is off the board. Huskins has always been a back-pair defenseman throughout his career, which …
