Per Anthony SanFilippo of the Delco Times, here are some players who have confirmed their appearance at the Alumni Game on December 31. Mark Recchi Brian Propp Dave Poulin Bobby Clarke Orest Kindrachuk Kjell Samuelsson Bill Barber Reggie Leach Chris Therien Eric Desjardins Derian Hatcher Mark Laforest – Ed. note (?) and some other guys named Eric Lindros and John LeClair, too. As for the Rangers, the reports are scarce, though ASF says they’re trying to get as many players from the ’94 Cup winners to participate. While that may be a great trip of recent nostalgia for Blueshirts fans, …

Brian and Lou team up to analyze and entertain as they “check” the Flyers with their weekly guests, including current and former players. The hour-long show will air on WMCN44 on Wednesday nights at 9:00pm throughout the NHL’s regular season. “We’re thrilled to offer our viewers this new show that will …
Point/Counterpoint: Brendan Shanahan and the new definition of justice
Point/Counterpoint is a new series which argues both sides of a topic relevant to the Philadelphia Flyers. As always, the potential for a member of the Orange and Black to have a face-to-face meeting in New York City after a bout of gritty “Flyers hockey: exists constantly. This week, Nick D and Bob H ”debate” whether or not the new system of determining what is an illegal hit and how NHL discipline czar Brendan Shanahan handles any suspensions is working. Nick D (Point): The NHL has a new sheriff in town and his name is Brendan Shanahan. Shanahan has brought credibility, transparency, and consistency to the …
Pronger to IR; Harry Z and Holmstrom recalled
In a move that was not unexpected, the Flyers placed defenseman and team captain Chris Pronger on injured reserve Tuesday, eight days after suffering a serious right eye injury. Pronger has been sidelined since absorbing the full force of a follow-through from Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mikhail Grabovski on October 24. After initial examination, the 37-year-old was slated to miss 2-3 weeks while recovering. “I think he’ll get cleared to push it harder and probably get on the ice by himself in the next few days and maybe by the end of the week get on the ice with the …
Schenn to miss 4-6 weeks with broken foot
The unquiet slumber of the early part of this 2011-12 season continued on Thursday, as Flyers GM Paul Holmgren confirmed that Brayden Schenn suffered a broken foot and will miss 4-to-6 weeks. Schenn apparently suffered the injury when taking a shot off his left foot in Wednesday’s 5-1 loss in Montreal. Several sources reported that he was already in a walking boot by the time the club packed up to return to Philadelphia. It’s an unexpected setback for the 20-year-old, who, despite not recording a point in four games with the big club this season, showed signs of the faith …
Holmgren on Pronger
Q: Did he go to the hospital? A: “No, our eye doctor came here. He’s going to see the eye doctor every day for the next four days. We think after that time that he’ll be out of, we don’t want to say danger, but if everything goes ok and if the swelling goes down, he should start on some kind of an exercise program shortly after that, and we’re hoping he’ll be able to rejoin the team within ten days to two weeks. And skating-wise, not necessarily playing wise.” Q: Is there a prognosis on it? A: “Well, not really. …
Flyers beat Leafs, Pronger suffers eye injury
The cliche pops up every time a serious injury occurs in any college or professional game — that these unfortunate events serve as stunning reminders that sports is ultimately about the players and not the actual passion in competition. Nonetheless, you could tell the air was sucked out of the Wells Fargo Center and time seemed to stand still with just over eight minutes to play in the first period of a 4-2 Flyers victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday night. That’s when Flyers captain Chris Pronger suffered a potentially serious right eye injury when struck full-on by …
Bloody Sunday: A retrospective
Sunday, October 22, 2006. I wonder how and where millions of other Flyers fans heard the news, whether they were wide awake or half-asleep or just simply couldn’t believe what they were hearing. For me, it might as well have been the continuation of a dream. The night before, my working life was put on pause for my 10th high school reunion, and to say I tied one on (aside from slipping back into euphemisms from the 1950s) would be serious understatement. The alarm went off at 10:35 AM — plenty of time to crawl out from the sanctuary of my covers …
Lindros may return for Winter Classic
No featured player in Flyers franchise history is the subject of more intense scrutiny or polarized opinions than Eric Lindros. Last seen in Orange and Black in May of 2000, the now 38-year-old — 19 years removed from his rookie campaign – has been estranged from the organization since his 2000-01 holdout which eventually led to then-GM Bob Clarke shipping him to the New York Rangers for three players. The native of Oshawa, Ontario was last heard from in September of 2008, in a brief videotaped message to the fans during the club’s final appearance in the Spectrum. Many have wondered …
