No matter which way you figure, the sands in the hourglass of Peter Laviolette’s tenure as Philadelphia Flyers head coach are rapidly descending towards the bottom. The power vacuum, whether it is created during this six-day block, at the trade deadline or following the completion of this truncated season, will leave a huge question mark as far as discerning which direction the franchise will head going forward. Titans captain done for season

Andy Bohmbach endured a concussion, multiple American Hockey League call-ups that went nowhere, and near-constant roster upheaval, but always held it down this year as the heart, soul and captain of the Trenton Titans. His season is done. Per Mike Ashmore of the Trentonian, Bohmbach was placed on the 21-day injured reserve list by the club on Wednesday, stripping the struggling team of their best player for the final games of the regular season. Report: Flyers to break bank over Giroux extension

According to John Boruk, host over at Comcast SportsNet Philly, the Flyers are about to go all in on captain Claude Giroux. His tweet from Monday: “You can draw up the contract right now, but Giroux will get 71-72 million over 8 years. It’s just a matter of when it gets done.” Giroux has struggled during this truncated season, his first as team captain following a breakout 93-point performance in a full campaign last year. Flyers sign St. Lawrence’s Flanagan to ATO

Late last night, the report from Bob McKenzie from TSN of Canada was that the Flyers signed free agent forward Kyle Flanagan from St. Lawrence to an amateur tryout contract for the remainder of this season and a one-year deal for 2013-14. He is expected to report to Adirondack of the AHL by Friday at the latest. Flanagan, a native of the university town of Canton, New York, finished his senior season with 15 goals and 47 points in 32 games. It’s all but a done deal. Chris Pronger will never play another game in the NHL. If only he’d realize it. This is the kind of season it’s been so far: the National Hockey League ignores the fact that the Philadelphia Flyers are taking time off from their busy schedule to hold their annual carnival on Sunday afternoon, issuing a four-game suspension to Harry Zolnierczyk.
