Blake Kessel is regarded as one of the better defenseman on the Trenton Titans. At 6’2″, 203 pounds, Kessel does a great job in his own end of the rink and can pitch in offensively as well. In his final two years at the University of New Hampshire and his time with the Adirondack Phantoms last season, Kessel posted a total of 16 goals and 67 assists in 133 games. Stephen Schultz potted four power-play goals and Scott Wedgewood stopped everything he saw, as the Trenton Titans dominated the Reading Royals 6-0 last night at the Sun National Bank Center. Connor Goggin and Jacob Cepis also found nylon in the victory, while the pair of Blake Kessel and Kelly Zajac each had three assists in the easy win. The Philadelphia Flyers edged out a 6-5 win at the CONSOL Energy Center tonight against the Pittsburgh Penguins in a ridiculous contest between the Atlantic Division opponents. Jakub Voracek recorded a hat trick and Wayne Simmonds had a three-point night, as well as a Gordie Howe hat trick, in a wild one-goal win on the road. Ilya Bryzgalov had 27 saves and Tomas Vokoun registered 26 saves, as the pair struggled in the 32 shots they saw apiece. The KHL playoffs start today, as 16 of the league’s 26 clubs compete for the Gagarin Cup. Since the NHL and KHL are huge competitors, it’s interesting to look at the players on the current KHL playoff teams to see just how many are former Philadelphia Flyers or NHLers. Claude Giroux backed up his words after the loss on Saturday, as he led the Philadelphia Flyers to an emphatic 7-0 win against the New York Islanders at Nassau Coliseum on Monday afternoon. The Philadelphia Flyers were able to extend their point streak to four games this week, as they earned a shootout loss to the Florida Panthers and an overtime win over the Carolina Hurricanes.
