The Streak

I was excited when I heard that Ilya Bryzgalov was going to be a Flyer. There was an immediate desire not to be pleased with the trading of Mike Richards to the Kings (supposedly to get the money) nor when I found out about the HUMANGOUS (had to) contract that the Flyers offered Bryzgalov to come. However, I liked the Phoenix goalie because I’d been following the Coyotes off and on since I started watching hockey. He got them into the playoffs in 2010 as far as I was concerned. And then the first half (3/4th’s?) of the season happened. …

Preview – Goon

So, apparently, according to the million (slight exaggeration) hockey-related people I follow online, Goon has already come out in the Philadelphia/East Coast area. I asked weeks ago if I could review it on here. But it’s not released yet where I live in the middle of the country even though I live within a decent drive from Chicago which does host a hockey team, one that isn’t irrelevant. Okay, so I’m terribly annoyed. But as I cannot do a thing until it comes out (end of this month) here. So until then, here you go. And yes, I’m excited about …

Flyers Fans Book Review Part One

When you start a new hobby, or obsession (more apropos in my case), there is a lot of information to learn right off the bat. When my best friend Pam introduced me to hockey and subsequently, the Flyers, a lot of names came hurtling my way. Present Flyers, past Flyers, trades, etc. I heard names like Lindros, Pelle, Hextall, Clarke and I’m one of those people who has to see things to remember them. Just hearing stuff doesn’t stick in my mind. So I knew about Pelle Lindbergh and who Bob Clarke was (I now can recognize him both from …

Creating Drama

(from Google images) In just a few days, I will be celebrating my hockey two year anniversary. I mark my beginnings as a fan by the day I saw the last game of the Olympics in 2010. It was February 28th. I’m not sure when I officially was a ‘fan,’ but that game marked the start of it. Last year, I celebrated my one year anniversary by attending the Flyers Carnival. It was quite an experience, as I realized that even me, the Southerner, can get horribly nervous when meeting new people…if those people happen to be NHL hockey players. …

Mail Call

This is what was waiting for me in the mailbox. Which is so horrible that as soon as it’s uploaded on here, I’m just going to delete the photo off my desktop because I feel so wrong to have something called malkin.jpg. ::shudders:: But then I open the magazine and this is what I see: After a really long week, Claude Giroux appears in my mailbox. Someone up there likes me. Yes, I’m still receiving The Hockey News, mostly because I keep forgetting to cancel my subscription and then my credit card gets charged again and I hate to …
