Flyers Roster Takes Shape; Hall, Gervais sent to Adirondack

The Flyers 2013-14 roster finally has been set, just minutes before the 5:00 PM deadline set by the NHL. After forward Adam Hall and defenseman Bruno Gervais cleared waivers, the team sent them to their AHL affiliate Adirondack Phantoms. General Manager Paul Holmgren also said that defenseman Chris Pronger would be put on long-term injury reserve before the night was over. Flyers will LTIR Pronger tonight, Homer says. Hall, Gervais Waived; Trade Incoming?

Photo courtesy of Philly.com When fourth-line center Adam Hall engaged in two fights during last night’s preseason finale vs. the Washington Capitals, we all assumed he was fighting for his job. A little less than 24 hours later, we were assured that was the case when the Flyers put him and defenseman Bruno Gervais on waivers. VandeVelde Assigned to Phantoms; Laughton Appears to Win Roster Spot

Photo courtesy of Zimbio.com The Flyers announced Saturday afternoon that they assigned left winger Chris VandeVelde to the Adirondack Phantoms. It seems 2012 first-round draft pick Scott Laughton has made the team now, at least on a nine-game trial basis. Laughton could likely see time on the team’s fourth line, with Max Talbot playing on the third line. VandeVelde was a dark horse at Flyers camp, having beat out Austrian Michael Raffl in the camp battle for the vacant offensive spot …

Flyers Send Down Raffl, Lauridsen to Phantoms

Photo courtesy of Philly.com The battle for the third line wing spot is a little clearer today, as the Flyers announced they sent LW Michael Raffl and D Oliver Lauridsen down to the Adirondack Phantoms ahead of tonight’s preseason finale versus the Washington Capitals. Raffl, who had been battling with Scott Laughton and Chris VandeVelde for the team’s vacant spot on the third line, was held without a goal in four preseason games for the club. Lauridsen, the big defenseman from Denmark, played in three preseason games with the the Flyers after a short stint with the team last season. …

Three More Assigned to Phantoms Camp

(Photo courtesy of the Philadelphia Flyers) The Flyers announced that three players have cleared waivers and were assisted to the American Hockey League Phantoms, where training camp is scheduled to begin Monday. The three players were forwards Ben Holmstrom and Kris Newbury, and goaltender Yann Danis. Defenseman Marc-Andre Bourdon also cleared waivers, but instead of heading to Adirondack, is expected to be placed on long-term injury reserve as he tries to battle back from nagging concussion issues. An impressive group of young players will take the ice tomorrow in Glens Falls, NY, including recent signee Petr Straka, Nick Cousins, Kyle …
