After Video Review: Power Play Zone Entries

After Video Review is a feature that I will run a few times throughout the Flyers’ season. I’ve played hockey for about ten years and one of the things I enjoy (or get frustrated over) about watching the Flyers is the strategies they employ in different situations. After having the chance to attend a few Flyers games this season and being able to take in the entire ice at once, one of the things that jumped out at me was how the Flyers attempt to enter the offensive zone on power plays.

Flyers Add Cleary

The Flyers signed F Daniel Cleary to a three year deal on Monday. The deal cannot be made official until the end of the month, as the Flyers are over the salary cap until Chris Pronger is placed on the LTIR. The deal, as reported by USA Today, is worth $2.75 million over three years. Cleary became the odd man out in Detroit, where he’s played since 2005, after the Red Wings signed star winger Daniel Alfredsson and center Stephen Weiss. Flyers Extend Camp Invite To Hal Gill

Defense was not a strong point for the Philadelphia Flyers last year, and today they’ve made a move in an attempt to shore up the position. Fluto Shinzawa of the Boston Globe is reporting that the Flyers have invited Hal Gill to training camp this season. Gill, 38, spent eight years with the Bruins, before signing with Toronto in 2006 as a free agent. Gil went on to win a Stanley Cup with Pittsburgh in 2009, before signing with Montreal.  He was later traded to Nashville who used a compliance buyout on Gill for the final year of his deal. …
