Hockey Hilarity: Luongo Looking Out For Lundqvist

Friday funnies brought to you straight from hockey’s own players, media personnel, and broadcast botches. We’ll be mucking it up every week right here, examining puck ups, puns, tweets, and more! This week, one of the biggest stories in the NHL was the New York Rangers‘ signing of impending unrestricted free agent goaltender Henrik Lundqvist. Lundqvist has played every single game of his career in the NHL with the Rangers and made it clear that he wanted to stay in New York. The two sides came to terms on a 7-year deal worth a reported $59.5 million dollars. That’s a lot of …

Flight Plan: Wheels Up

In this writer’s opinion, the Philadelphia Flyers blew it last week. The team had three games which they should have won, one of which they could have grabbed a point in, and garnered just four points to their names and worse, they scored just seven goals in the process. To come out the way they did against the lowly Florida Panthers, is just unacceptable. To need overtime and the shootout to win a game against the Nashville Predators is similarly unacceptable. This team is far too reliant on Ray Emery and Steve Mason to keep games within reach. They can’t …

Yesterday, Ilya Bryzgalov (yes, that Ilya Bryzgalov), with the help of the Edmonton Oilers hockey team (yes, that Edmonton Oilers hockey team) recorded a shutout in his first start this season. What is hilarious about this is that people think this is a humongous big deal (yeah, I hate that stupid, cheap, annoying joke too). It’s not. Want to know why? The Oilers shutout the Nashville Predators. For the record, …

Flight Plan: Turning It Around

The Philadelphia Flyers have been one of the hottest teams in the entire NHL in November. Since their first game of the month, a 7-0 blowout loss to the Washington Capitals, they have managed to garner at least a point in the standings in every game except one, as they’ve gone 7-1-2. It’s a pretty impressive little run they’ve been on, but what’s also refreshing is that they are starting to score goals at a more consistent pace. They’ve scored more than two goals on six occasions now for the season, which is a feat they accomplished just once through …

Hockey Hilarity: Corey Perry Carpe Diem-s Stick

Friday funnies brought to you straight from hockey’s own players, media personnel, and broadcast botches. We’ll be mucking it up every week right here, examining puck ups, puns, tweets, and more! So earlier this week Alex Semin of the Carolina Hurricanes was sitting on the edge of the boards in front of the ‘Canes’ bench waiting for a player on his team to hop off the ice so he could drop in for a shift. Corey Perry of the Anaheim Ducks was probably taught as a young lad to seize the day, so he kind of, sort of, maybe, a little …
