Flight Plan Week of 01.02.2011

The Philadelphia Flyers had a week that has been pretty uncharacteristic of this team through the 2010 part of the 2010-2011 Season as they’ve allowed a ton of goals. In just three games, they allowed 15 of their total 102 goals against. Part of that can be contributed to the fact that one of their top four defensemen is out as Chris Pronger has a broken foot, and part of it can be contributed to Michael Leighton making his first start and shaking off some of the obvious rust he’s accumulated by missing much of the preseason and all of …

Flight Plan week of 12.26.2010

‘Tis the season for road trips as the Flyers head out west on their annual post-Christmas visit to the other conference and try to regain the top spot in the NHL after losing it to Pittsburgh as they remained idle during the Penguins’ last two games. The Penguins hold just a one point lead over the Flyers and the Fly guys have two games in hand as they’ve played 35 to Pittsburgh’s 37.  The Flyers obviously would love to forget what happened a week ago at home, but alas, they would do well not to as they got smoked in …

Flight Plan Week of 12.19.2010

The Flyers are on a five-game winning streak. They’re 7-1-2 in their last 10. They have the highest goal differential in the entire NHL with a +35, which they lead every team in that category by at least nine goals. They have scored an Eastern Conference leading 117 goals in 34 games. And above all, they lead their division, their conference, and the whole league with 49 points. Bottom line: the Philadelphia Flyers are a good team, at least up till now. The Flyers have one more game before Santa comes and they’re looking for a stocking stuffer of two …

Flight Plan Week of 12.12.2010

As of writing this preview the Philadelphia Flyers have gotten five of the six points available through three of the four games thus far this week and will try for seven of eight against the Boston Bruins today. Unfortunately, the Flyers should have gotten all six of the points available however they coughed up a third period lead for the second time in two weeks and this was a little bit more distressing. The Flyers had a two-goal lead going into the final stanza and they even extended it to a three-goal lead when they promptly fell apart and allowed the San …

Flight Plan Week of 12.05.2010

The Philadelphia Flyers had just two games this past week. The Flyers were shut out by the Boston Bruins, in the first meeting of both the season and since last year’s historic playoff series, and beat the New Jersey Devils by a score of 5-3. This week the Flyers will continue their busy schedule with their fourth four-game week this season against some very hungry teams in the New York Islanders, the San Jose Sharks, the Toronto Maple Leafs, and a rematch against the Boston Bruins. Since the Flyers had been on a short skid of late that they ended …
