Grading the Flyers draft

#20 – Scott Laughton, Center The Flyers are good at finding value when picking late in the first round, but this time they looked for something different than what made them successful in the past. In past drafts, they’ve picked forwards with plenty of offensive skill that ended up being undervalued due to their small stature (Giroux, Richards, Downie). On Friday night, they reached slightly for someone short on offensive skill. The 2012 draft is days away and Flyers fans have been discussing draft strategy for the first round. What should the Flyers do? The general consensus seems to be that they need to draft a defenseman in the first round and anything else is disappointing. The Future Flyers Weekly Report follows the weekly progress of Flyers prospects. Forwards: Marcel Noebels finally broke out offensively , scoring four goals and assisting on two in three games with Portland. Nick Cousins added four more points (2g, 2a) to his totals last week which moved him up to 7th overall in the OHL scoring race. The Future Flyers Weekly Report follows the weekly progress of Flyers prospects. Brendan Ranford moved up from 13th to 10th in WHL scoring after another strong weekly performance. Ranford tallied 8 points (3g, 5a) in 3 games which included two 3 point games.
