1. Trent Klatt’s Breathe Rite Trent Klatt was without a doubt the best Flyer of all time. Had he not been traded to Vancouver for a conditional pick two games into the 1998-99 season he surely would have topped all of Bobby Clarke’s totals. One category that Clarke could never hope to catch Klatt in was total number of horse faces on your shoulders – 1. And when Klatt-a-tat-tat threw those little useless stickers on his face to stretch out his nostrils it looked like Seabiscuit was bearing down on you on the forecheck. You know how many defensemen in …
How has Carcillo been playing?
Dan Carcillo has the second lowest scoring total of any regular Flyer forward this season and he has a team-worst -10. Still, his ice time has been increasing in recent games. Do you think he’s earning the increased time or he’s just filling in to give other forwards a rest before the playoffs? How is he playing?

On Chara and Pacioretty
When Zdeno Chara hit Max Pacioretty during Tuesday’s tilt between the Bruins and Canadiens, my stomach turned. I was not angry. I was simply worried about Pacioretty. It’s the most fear and concern I felt since Ondrej Pavelec mysteriously collapsed during a stoppage of play back in October. I could care less about the outcome of either game or what it meant for either team. These situations transcended the artificial boundaries of hockey and all I could do was sit at the edge of my seat and wait, hoping to hear that the player was going to be alright. The …
Five Reasons I love the Flyers: David Strehle
David Strehle covers the Philadelphia Flyers for NHL Hot Stove and he may be one of the most welcoming and easily likable people on Twitter. He is also a diehard fan of the Flyers. Below, he gives us the five reasons he loves the Flyers. 5. The fans In all sports, there are fans of teams that are described as loyal and even passionate. Philadelphia sports fans in general have a certain stigma throughout the sports world, but Philly hockey fans take the meaning of “fan” to another level. The Flyers faithful have been named the craziest in the NHL by The Hockey News, and they might just …
Discussing the slump
Last night, ProHockeyTalk published three reasons why the Flyers are struggling. Quickly summed up, they believe the Flyers aren’t desperate enough, the scoring has dried up, and the team can’t seem to close out games in the third period. PHT also points out that the goaltending is not to blame here. For the most part, I agree with the article but I also think it goes a bit deeper than that. The Flyers are in self-preservation mode. The memory of all the fatigue and injuries suffered towards the end of the ’10 season and throughout the playoffs is once again fresh …
Happy seventh anniversary of “The Brawl”
It was seven years ago today, March 5, 2004. Rob Ray and Donald Brashear dropped the gloves, not knowing that they were in the process of making history. The Philadelphia Flyers and Ottawa Senators engaged in a brawl that resulted in 419 combined penalty minutes, the most in the history of any NHL game. 419 minutes, nearly seven full games of ice time. Happy seventh anniversary, Philadelphia and Ottawa. You will alway hold a special place in my heart.
Who would you trade: Carcillo or Shelley?
Broad Street Hockey wonders if the Flyers are looking to trade Dan Carcillo or Jody Shelley. When I asked Travis Hughes who he would trade, he said he wasn’t sure. My intention was to respond to him on Twitter but it is too complex of an issue to discuss in 140 character chunks. It has been said that Shelley is a great clubhouse leader and that is something that could be invaluable to the Flyers in the postseason. Carcillo has more scoring potential, is more versatile, and can be used up and down the lineup. However, one could make the …
