Our top posts of 2010

Flyers Faithful officially launched in August of 2010 and it turned out to be a great season to launch. Claude Giroux began a breakout season. Sergei Bobrovsky provided a sense of stability in net that the Flyers haven’t seen from a rookie in ages. The Flyers shot to the top of the standings and reached 20 wins the earliest since 1986. So far, so good. While the team enjoys some time off, let’s take a few minutes to recap the top Flyers Faithful stories of the year. Remembering Pelle Remembering Pelle is a five part series honoring the memory of …

Five Reasons I Love the Flyers: Sarah Baicker

CSN Philly‘s own Sarah Baicker does a terrific job of covering the Flyers and giving her legion of Twitter followers the inside scoop on the team. She is a devout hockey fan and player. Here are the five reasons she loves the Flyers. 1. The jersey I’ve heard countless stories about the origin of the Flyers’ logo and the club’s orange-and-black uniforms. None of them are confirmed, but what is undeniable is that when you’re in Philly and you see orange, you know it’s for the Flyers. Whether the iconic black logo is actually supposed to be a flying P …

The Flyers’ Christmas wish list

The holiday season is upon us and, while stockpiling items on our Amazon wish lists, we decided to come up with our own list of things we would want for the Philadelphia Flyers in 2011. Here are our top 10 wishes, minus the most obvious one (a Stanley Cup championship): 10. Cap relief The Flyers have zero need for Matt Walker. They never did. When he becomes healthy, if the Flyers can find a taker who is desperate for a physical defender, jackpot. If not, just waive him. Meanwhile, it probably won’t be too long before the goaltending logjam gets …

Benchmarking some ’11 predictions

We were too new and too disorganized to assemble a preview of the 2011 NHL season worth reading. However, we made sporadic predictions on our site and participated in Freeze the Puck’s Atlantic Division Preview. So, we’ll aggregate some of those predictions here and benchmark our results. Prediction #1: Breakout stars Atlantic Division: I’m going to pick Claude Giroux. He’s been a slow starter over the last few seasons but he also hasn’t had wingers that could keep up with him on his line. Claude Giroux is only two goals shy of tying his career high of 16 goals. He …

Five Reasons I love the Flyers: Zoo With Roy

You may know and love Zoo With Roy from his blog, I Want to go to the Zoo with Roy Halladay, which features stick figure drawing and animations — among other things — about the Philadelphia Phillies. Here, he offers the five reasons he loves the Flyers. 1. PRISM They had a network made (far as I can recall, yo) specifically for their home games and late-night boobie movies. Yes, please. 2. Sergei Bobrovsky No lie, I’m absolutely fascinated with Bob. And it’s not just the idea of an obscure kid from an awful Russian team that doesn’t speak English …

Solutions to solve the goaltending logjam

Michael Leighton has been sent to the Phantoms for conditioning and may soon be healthy enough to return to the Flyers’ roster. That means the team will likely have to make a move to resolve the logjam at the goalie position. Here are some of our suggestions: 5. Death Match Lock Michael Leighton and Brian Boucher in a cage and let them fighting out. The last man standing will earn the honor of being the official backup goaltender of the Philadelphia Flyers. 4. Send Sergei Bobrovsky to the Phantoms Remember that scene in Top Gun when Maverick slammed on the …
