The morning after: Devils vs. Flyers 9.21.10
I’m thinking of implementing a new regular feature on this site where I recap my thoughts on a game from the previous day with a new perspective. For now, I’ll call it “The morning after,” until I think of something better. Here are some more thoughts on last night’s game: The Flyers have the potential to be an offensive juggernaut: James van Riemsdyk looked like a number two overall pick, Daniel Briere’s shot is lethal, Nikolai Zherdev and Jeff Carter could put up big numbers, and that doesn’t even account for Mike Richards, Claude Giroux, Scott Hartnell, et al. This …
First period thoughts
Zherdev is fun to watch. If he forms good chemistry with Carter, they will be dangerous. He’s fast and has good vision. Biggest standouts were the fringe guys: Nodl, Powe, Bartulis. Giroux and JvR looked good too. Well, Bartulis wasn’t great but he had his moments. I like Sean OD. Meh-zaros looked terrible to me. Not impressed. Leighton wasn’t tested much. He made one good save, or so it appeared from my angle. Didn’t notice Guerin or Richards much, outside of the penalty Richards took.
How will the Flyers make room for Bill Guerin?
It seems like a foregone conclusion that the Flyers plan on signing Bill Guerin. How will they manage to fit him under the cap and find a roster spot for him, though? Give your feedback in our poll below. If you choose “Other,” leave your answer in the comments.
Five Reasons I Love the Flyers: Teemu H
Teemu H writes for the Flyers blog, Broad Street Hockey. You may know him as Euroflyers on Twitter. He lives in Finland and is a diehard Flyers fan. He has offered up his five reasons why he loves the Flyers. 1. Style The world is full of boring teams. Either teams that trust in air-tight defense, goaltending, both, or clogging the neutral zone. Teams that don’t possess enough skill to play an offensively oriented game, or teams that have a coach who doesn’t give his players the permission to use those skills. The Flyers are not a boring team. They …
Dancin’ Shawny’s story
Give us a little backstory. You had season tickets. You started dancing during a mass exodus in the ’07 season. Simon Gagne scored. Then what? How did you get noticed? Well it was pretty instant that I got noticed. After I appeared, then Gagne scored, a representative (a sales one I’m guessing) told me that they liked my enthusiasm, and hoped I would return next game. The next game I was there and when I saw the camera I decided to do it again, apparently that’s what they were looking for and it’s grown ever since. I just wanted to …
Five Reason I Love the Flyers: The Mighty Tim
Tim is the longest tenured moderator at the official Flyers Message Board. He lives in the U.K. and is a diehard Flyers Fan. He has offered up his five reasons why he loves the Flyers. Hi everyone! I am The Mighty Tim your friendly Flyers fan from across the pond. For those who don’t know me, I am a British Flyers fan, but I used to live in South Jersey which is how I came across the team. I have been a supporter of the team for as long as I can remember! Recently, I was asked to provide 5 …
NHL 2K11 review: iPhone edition
Allow me to preface this review by putting everything in context. NHL 2K11 costs $1.99 for the iPhone, which is less than the typical cup of coffee from Starbucks. Comparatively, many of the EA sports games cost $6.99+. There is also a Lite version of the game, which is free, if you’re hard up for cash. No matter what flaws the game may have, it’s still a bargain. In the past, we have seen air hockey and bubble hockey games available for the iPhone but 2K11 is the first NHL game released by a major developer. As such, it makes …
NHL 11 demo: A brief review, system comparison
A few days ago, I downloaded the NHL 11 demo on both the Xbox 360 and PS3 platforms. Much like Pro Hockey Talk did earlier today, I would like to share some thoughts on the game. Immediately, I was impressed by the intro and the cleaner interface. The new faceoff engine is a nice feature and there is much greater detail to the players in the circle now. I broke about five or six total sticks during the handful of times I played the demo. Three times came during one game but none lead to any scoring chances. Seeing the …
The current and future states of Flyers’ goaltending
Justin Goldman runs the site The Goalie Guild and is a goalie scout. He began playing hockey at the age of 10 but passed up the opportunity to play juniors to attended Colorado State University. He has written about goalies on a number of different sites over the last three years and has recently been working on different project with Dallas Stars goalie coach Mike Valley and former NHL goalie Steve Shields. He credits Valley and Shields with helping his professional development. If you are one of the 2,000+ people who follow Justin on Twitter, you know that he has …
