Will an Atlantic Division team win the Stanley Cup this season?

Nina G: I think the Penguins are the only one strong enough to win it if healthy, but since they are not I do not see the Cup coming from the Atlantic in 2012. Bob H: An Atlantic Division team certainly has the juice to win the Stanley Cup, because the East for whatever reason has been a “crapshoot” for as long as anybody can remember. Whoever goes up for the prize will have to contend with Boston and to a lesser extent, Washington in the East, but will have a greater challenge from Detroit or whoever else rises up in …

Michael Houser starts OHL season strong

Michael Houser, of Wexford, PA, was among the goalies vying for a contract during the Flyers training camp. He performed well — and certainly outplayed fellow goalie, Brad Phillips — before getting cut on September 19. Houser, who currently players for the London Knights of the OHL, is working hard to catch the attention of the Flyers. Here is an excerpt from a Metro story on Houser: Two games into the season, Houser has been one puck from perfect. Heading into Thursday’s games, Houser has faced more shots (82) and stopped more (81) than any other goalie in the OHL. …

Which team poses the biggest threat for the Flyers this season?

Nina G: I think the Devils, Rangers, and Penguins will all be a threat as I see the division being wide open between them and the Flyers. Bob H: Since we’ve seen that the Cup search has taken a back seat for this year, I only realistically foresee that the Flyers biggest threat will be either themselves or injuries. Pavialax: If healthy, the Penguins’ depth matches well against the Flyers and they pose the biggest threat. Nick D: The team that poses the biggest threat in the Atlantic Division this year is the New York Rangers. Adding Brad Richards is a huge …

Five Reasons I Love the Flyers: Adam Goren

Adam Goren is a longtime staple of the Philadelphia punk rock community. Goren made his bones in the scene as a member of the band Fracture before leaving to form Atom and His Package, a synthetic punk group that consisted primarily of himself (as Atom) and his “package”, a synthesizer. After parting ways with the package in 2003, he joined the punk band, Armalite, which also features members of bands like Lifetime and Kid Dynamite. Adam is a huge fan of both hockey and the Flyers. He has written about the team before in songs like Goalie (see video below). You …

Constructing a trade rumor timeline

The big rumor today was that the Flyers and Predators were working on a deal to send Scott Hartnell back to Nashville. How did this come to be? When the Flyers were originally shopping Mike Richards and Jeff Carter, Hartnell was apparently on the block too. Hartnell is the last remaining member of the Center City crew. He is overpaid and the Flyers are tight against the cap. Nobody expected Mike Richards or Jeff Carter to be traded. Now, people are more willing to believe that anything is possible. Paul Holmgren said that both Brayden Schenn and Sean Couturier could …
