You make the call

“Looks like a guy who you think is called ‘Hermano’ is going to get his a*s kicked.” On the left, we have Gob Bluth, creator of Mr. Bananagrabber. On the right, we have Christopher Moorhouse, who was charged with throwing a banana at Wayne Simmonds during a preseason game between the Philadelphia Flyers and the Detroit Red Wings.

What player in the division will have the biggest breakout season? Which will have the most disappointing season?

Nina G: Breakout: John Tavares. Most Disappointing: Ilya Bryzgalov. Bob H: Breakout King: Zach Parise, F, New Jersey or James Neal, F, Pittsburgh Fizzle: Martin Brodeur, G, New Jersey or Ryan Callahan, F, New York Kim Q: I think James Neal could have a career year and on the other end of the spectrum, I think Brad Richards will disappoint and will not do quite as well as he should. Nick D: The player who will have the biggest breakout season for their respective teams will be either be John Tavares of the New York Islanders or James van Riemsdyk …

On the preseason, Shanahan, and more

The Preseason The power play has the potential to be lethal, especially once Chris Pronger and his booming shot are back on the point. When Jaromir Jagr was signed, I balked at his contract, even though I expected 60-70 points from him. Now that I see the chemistry he has with Claude Giroux and how much he can help the powerplay, $3.3 million seems reasonable. Nina G: If Crosby plays most of the season I would say Crosby. If he misses a large portion I’ll go with Zach Parise. Bob H: Sidney Crosby, F, Pittsburgh (in absentia) or Chris Pronger, D, Philadelphia. Kim Q: Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist. Nick D: Since there are so many of them, it’s a tough question to answer as to who will be the best player in the Atlantic Division. Even if you divided this question up into three parts as to the best forward, defenseman and goalie or five parts by adding all three forward positions, this would still …

Alumni game roster wish list

If I had a say in the matter, here’s the lineup I’d like to see Philadelphia ice for the alumni games against the Rangers. John LeClair – Eric Lindros – Mikael Renberg Sami Kapanen – Peter Forsberg – Mark Recchi Brian Propp – Dave Poulin – Tim Kerr Bill Barber – Bobby Clarke – Reggie Leach Kevin Dineen Mark Howe - Eric Desjardins Chris Therien –  Kim Johnsson Paul Coffey – Derian Hatcher Brad Marsh Dmitri Yushkevich Derian Hatcher Ron Hextall Roman Cechmanek (unless Bernie Parent is willing to  suit up) I’m not suggesting these are the best all time Flyers, …
