Claude Giroux is awesome, even with a creeper 'stache

Even with lockout, 2012 a headline-packed year for Flyers

Admit it, even with a mustache, Claude Giroux is awesome but coming into his own was just one of the many big stories coming out of the Flyers’ organization this year. (N.B. Leaving Mark Howe’s overdue number retirement out of this post was a complete oversight on my part.) 10. Flyers lend a hand with Operation Hat Trick and Team Pennsylvania 2003 “We want to be playing,” said Scott Hartnell in a Puck Daddy article. “It’s unfortunate that we’re not playing right now.” Fortunately, former Flyer, Joe Watson, had the idea to help out the victims of Superstorm Sandy and suggested …

A look back at 2012 in hockey

Although the 2012-13 National Hockey League season has yet to start, the hockey world never stopped producing stories. We at Flyers Faithful compiled our list of the top hockey stories of 2012. Let us know what moments are on your list. 10. Small-market signing frenzy During the final free agency period before the current Collective Bargaining Agreement expired, small market teams suddenly found themselves at the forefront of big name free agent signing news. Minnesota made a big splash by landing both Zach Parise and Ryan Suter, arguably two of the top free agents this offseason; Nashville matched a ludicrous …

Poll: Donating the money to Hurricane Sandy victims

We raised somewhere between $400-$500 (estimated) for Hurricane Sandy victims during Saturday’s fundraiser. Now, we need to donate the money and I would like those involved in this process in any way to have a say in this matter. Please let us know below where you believe we should donate the money. We will keep this poll open until Sunday and then donate the proceeds to the winning charity. Thank you in advance for your time and opinion.

On community, giving

Today is a difficult day. Nobody will deny that. Tomorrow, we will try to do good to help the victims of Superstorm Sandy by raising some money in a charity ice hockey game. It’s a small gesture but it shows that people do care and want to help. That gesture was furthered today when numerous people mentioned that they wanted to do something to honor the victims of today’s unspeakable tragedy in Connecticut. We will do something. We will honor their memory with a moment of silence and, if someone is able and willing to sing, an anthem. In due …

The one where I get angry, irrational, and devious

This time tomorrow, the NHL lockout will be underway and there’s nothing we can do about it as fans. We can swear up and down that we’ll turn away and protest games but it does not matter what we say. Most of us will keep coming back and, now that the NHL has a longterm deal with NBC, the sport will reach a larger audience once it does return. Just think about all that pent up anxiousness and desire all coming to a head with the tease of two of the NHL’s most storied franchises, the Detroit Red Wings …
