Flyers, Giroux talk contract extension

According to TSN.com, the Philadelphia Flyers have begun preliminary discussions with Claude Giroux in order to extend his contract. Details are slim, but we know that currently the Flyers are over the salary cap as of right now.  As well as the fact that the team has just acquired defenseman Mark Streit from the New York Islanders.  Streit will also need a new contract, further pushing the issue of the salary cap. The Philadelphia Flyers have signed Defenseman Maxim Lamarche from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. The news was announced by Mikael Lalancette from TVA Sports. Voracek escapes injury in car accident

Philadelphia Flyers Forward Jakub Voracek was involved in a car accident earlier today. Voracek crashed his Ferrari into a truck near his home town in Kladno, Czech Republic.  The 23 year-old Flyers winger was luckily uninjured in the accident.  Paul Holmgren spoke with Jake earlier in the day and released a statement about it.  “He was involved in a car accident in the Czech Republic.  Although his car did suffer damage, there were no injuries.  Jake is fine,” said Holmgren. Former Flyer Bobrovsky nominated for Vezina Trophy

The National Hockey League announced its finalists for the Vezina Trophy this morning. The three finalists are all worthy candidates.  The first being last year’s Vezina winner Henrik Lundqvist, goalie for the New York Rangers.   The second is San Jose Sharks’ tender and Stanley Cup winner Antti Niemi.  The final nominee is former Philadelphia Flyers and current Columbus Blue Jackets’ goalie Sergei Bobrovsky. Flyers hold 11th spot in the 2013 Entry Draft

  The National Hockey League held its annual draft lottery tonight in Toronto. The lottery system allows the teams with the worst records a real chance at improving.  This year will mark the first time that all 14 of the non-playoff teams will have a shot at winning the first pick.  Basically it breaks down like this:  the worse the record of the team, the more likely the chance that they win the first-overall pick.
