On Thursday afternoon, U.S.A. Hockey announced the names of the first 15 players that will be on the roster for 2013 Men’s National Team at the World Championships, which will be held between two sites, Helsinki, Finland and Stockholm, Sweden, between May 3-19. Among those chosen are that of current Adirondack Phantoms goalie Cal Heeter and former Flyers defenseman Matt Carle. Heeter has played 32 games in his first season with the Phantoms, going 12-16-3 with a  2.92 goals- against average and a save percentage of .908. The Flyers announced the news earlier today that Flyers defenseman Bruno Gervais is now out indefinitely. Former Flyers G Niittymaki calls it quits

After a National Hockey League career that included 234 games played, former Flyers goaltender Antero Niittymaki officially retired from the sport on Friday. Niittymaki played seven seasons in the NHL including his first five (2003-04; 2005-09) in  Philadelphia. He retired with a record of 95-86-31, five shutouts, a save percentage of .902 and a goals-against average of 2.95. The 32-year-old goalie was plucked in the 1998 draft by Philadelphia in the sixth round (168th overall). After leaving the Flyers, Niittymaki played in Tampa Bay and San Jose and after playing the 2011-12 season in the American Hockey League for Worcester …
