2013 Draft Eligibles: Kerby Rychel is yet another NHL prospect with great athletic bloodlines

For many reading this article the last name Rychel may sound familiar. For some they may have no may have no idea. To clear up any confusion Windsor Spitfires left winger Kerby Rychel is the son of former NHL player Warren Rychel. The elder Rychel played nine seasons overall in the NHL with the Kings, Maple Leafs, Avalanche and Ducks respectively. While Warren was known throughout his NHL career as a grinder and a pest, Kerby has developed into a premier power forward prospect who registered back-to-back 40 goal seasons with the Spitfires. Kerby was originally drafted by the Barrie …

2013 NHL Entry Draft: Updated (5/31)Mock Draft One

Leading up to the draft Jared Abbott and I will be putting out several iterations of a first round mock. Of course, there is always the possibility of trades as well, which could dramatically alter the mock. I have made some significant changes to my picks from my first mock draft. Here is my first mock and here is Jared’s. Additionally, here is Jared’s revised mock draft. Also check out my Top 30 List as well as Jared’s Top 30. …

2013 Draft Eligibles: Mirco Mueller is another in the line of Swiss-born players to achieve success in the WHL

Two words come to mind when describing the play of Everett Silvertips defenseman Mirco Mueller. Smooth and mobile. Given Mueller’s size at 6’4 he’s remarkably agile and his crossover and pivots are excellent for such a big player. With his mobility and speed Mueller has an uncanny ability to cover a lot of ice defensively and on the offensive side his quickness opens up passing and shooting lanes for his teammates.   Offensively, Mueller was reliable for Everett this past season registering 6 goals, 25 assists, for 31 points in 63 games played this year. Mueller, also spelled Müller, was …

2013 Draft Eligibles: Could Medicine Hat Tiger Hunter Shinkaruk be on the Flyers radar?

Since losing defenseman Chris Pronger to a devastating eye injury back on October 24, 2011, the Flyers defensive corps has been downright dismal and unimpressive for the most part. Jared Abbott and I believe the Flyers will draft a defenseman with the 11th overall pick such as Rasmus Ristolainen, Ryan Pulock, Nikita Zadorov, or Mirco Mueller. However, we’re just guessing based on organizational need. Flyers General Manager Paul Holmgren does have a tendency of taking forwards in the first round and I would not be shocked if the orange and black go after a forward with their first selection. I …
