Bordson’s Redemption Helps Lead Phantoms Past Admirals

Adirondack’s Rob Bordson made up for his bad pass at the blue line – which gave Norfolk a 3-on-0 and an easy goal – by digging his skates in and scoring two of his own, helping to lead the Phantoms past the Norfolk Admirals 5-2 in front of a crowd of 3,157 at the Glens Falls Civic Center. Matt Mangene, Jason Akeson and Shane Harper also lit the lamp for the Phantoms (18-21-3) as the team moved even in the standings with the Admirals (18-22-3) with 39 points. Brian Boucher had 27 saves on the night. Norfolk’s goals were scored …

Simmonds Hurt in Flyers’ Third Straight Loss

The Philadelphia Flyers dropped their third straight game on Friday night in Washington against the Capitals by the score of 3-2. Wojtek Wolski had the eventual game-winner for the Caps, while Nicklas Backstrom had a goal and an assist in the victory. Braden Holtby had 31 saves for Washington, as the only two Flyers to beat him on the night were Bruno Gervais and Brayden Schenn. Ilya Bryzgalov had yet another strong performance, but he suffered another loss, as he made 23 stops on the night. The biggest incident in the loss for the Flyers was John Erskine’s hit on Wayne …

Sim returns to Phantoms on PTO

A key component to the Phantoms’ last Calder Cup triumph returned to the organization on Thursday. Jon Sim, a journeyman player who has skated at multiple levels both in and out of North America, was signed to a professional tryout contract (PTO) by the Adirondack Phantoms. “I was in touch with (Paul) Holmgren through my agent. I was on a PTO with San Antonio and things were going good, they wanted to keep me, but the opportunity to come up here and to play in this organization…again…was a great opportunity for me.” Sim was released from a similar deal with …

Heeter feels the heat with two-game ban

Better late than never. While most of us were hyperventilating over what a second meeting between the Flyers and New York Rangers would entail, the ECHL gave Trenton goaltender Cal Heeter a two-game suspension for his puck-firing stunt over the weekend. If you recall, Heeter, recently sent down from the Phantoms to the Titans, was so upset with giving up a goal to Wheeling on Saturday night, that he cleared the puck over the glass and into the stands in frustration. He was given a game misconduct, suspended indefinitely on Sunday and fined an undisclosed amount pending a review, which …

Atlantic Watch: 1/23-1/29

The Philadelphia Flyers started the week with a pair of wins, but a pair of lackadaisical efforts led to two losses where they were outscored 7-2. The Orange and Black find themselves at the bottom of the division with a trio of meetings against Southeast Division opponents over the next seven days. With a record of 0-3-0 and playing a team they went 0-6-0 against in 2011-2012, the Flyers’ 2-1 win over the visiting New York Rangers wasn’t expected on Thursday night. After a scoreless opening stanza, the tandem of Wayne Simmonds and Jakub Voracek registered their first goals of …
