Hall, Gervais Waived; Trade Incoming?

Photo courtesy of Philly.com When fourth-line center Adam Hall engaged in two fights during last night’s preseason finale vs. the Washington Capitals, we all assumed he was fighting for his job. The Hall move all but confirms that Scott Laughton will be sticking around with the team, but the Gervais move is a little more interesting. Adrian Dater, beat writer for the Colorado Avalanche said last night that there were rumblings of a trade in …

VandeVelde Assigned to Phantoms; Laughton Appears to Win Roster Spot

Photo courtesy of Zimbio.com The Flyers announced Saturday afternoon that they assigned left winger Chris VandeVelde to the Adirondack Phantoms. This brings the current roster to 24 players ahead of Monday’s roster deadline, with one more cut to come. Matt Read Signs 4-Year Extension

In a move to try and keep the team’s young core together for the foreseeable future, the Flyers signed Matt Read Friday night to a 4-year contract extension, worth $14.5 million. Read was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2013-14 season. After being signed out of Bemidji State University, Read posted a rookie-high 24 goals and 23 assists in 79 games for the Flyers in 2012-2013. During last year’s lockout-shortened season, Read posted a respectable 11 goals and 13 assists, although playing much of the year hurt after tearing muscles in his rib area. However, Read was one …
