The National Hockey League dished out a five-game suspension to Montreal Canadiens forward Ryan White on Wednesday afternoon, for an illegal check to the head of Philadelphia defenseman Kent Huskins. The incident occurred 6:11 into the first period of Monday’s 7-3 Philadelphia victory, when White reached out and used his elbow to subdue Huskins instead of using bodily contact. Huskins suffered a concussion on the play, and is out indefinitely. White was assessed a match penalty and game misconduct. He will forfeit $18,581.10, which automatically goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund, and not be eligible to return until …

The Yale Bulldogs grew from harmless pups to a pugnacious power in a matter of weeks, leaving their teeth marks in the NCAA record books in the process. Steve Mason was outstanding stopping 38 of 40 shots as the Philadelphia Flyers defeated the New York Rangers 4-2 on Tuesday night. “Certainly he seems to be feeling comfortable here”, Coach Peter Laviolette said of his new goaltender. ”He’s in control of the net. However, for Finnish defensive prospect Rasmus Ristolainen these are the qualities that make him one of the best defensive prospect in the upcoming draft. With this pathetic Flyers season dwindling down the topic of compliance buy-outs will be a hot one into and perhaps throughout the summer.The Flyers’ disappointing season combined with continued salary cap issues on a reduced salary cap next year will lead to a lot of conversation about if, or perhaps more accurately, who the Flyers should use the compliance buy-outs on.
